This year went really well because I've improved in subjects and I have moved up in my leaning .
This year I was Vice captain for Kowhai it felt hood being a leader .Being a leader is also difficult at the same time because you have to lead by example because all the little kids are watching you and might copy your stupid actions towards others and teachers so you have to always be on your best behaviour .
I have represented the school in Athletics,Rugby union and Cross country.
This year I came top of the class in reading PAT test I got rated a 7 the average of a year nines learning .
Mrs Tofa has been a great teacher this year and a big influence because she has helped me with my learning and work when I wasn't trying she always knew I could do better in test. She always encourages students too keep focused and you can see it in there learning because when they focus they improve more .So has Miss Atuahiva she's helped lots of students with their learning.
This year was fun Thanks Mrs Tofa and Miss Atuahiva for being great role models to me and other students .
I am a Year 8 student at Glenbrae School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Room 10 and my teacher is Mrs Tofa.

Financial Literacy
Today we had a session of financial literacy. We learnt about credit Miss Rachel talked to us about what you can do to earn your good credit she lifted up items and asked if we would lend it to family, friends, classmates or strangers the number slowly decreased in numbers as she showed us the objects.Next she asked if anyone wanted to volunteer for a skit Alisi,Baden,Keti and Voni volunteered she gave them tasks Voni and Keti did a skit about lending money to each other voni gave 5$ to Keti to buy a magazine and Keti told Voni that she would pay it back the next day and she did .Baden and Alisi did a skit bout lending a DVD he gave it to Alisi to borrow but she never finished the movie so Baden let her borrow it again and she had to give it back the next day but when Baden looked at the DVD it was broken and damaged .Then she gave us a hand out to do it was a fill in the gaps then she went over it with us last of all she gave us a sheet to take home it asked who do we trust to lend stuff to I put Siosifa and my parents and family.

Stardome trip
Today we went to the Stardome observatory with our school. As we arrived at the Stardome observatory we saw a sculpture outside it was amazing it was supposed to represent a space shuttle.Mrs Raj dismissed us for lunch until 11 am we all ran to the park and to the flying fox I ran straight to this octopus that had tires as seats at the ends of its arms Joseph pushed us along and then I jumped off and ran to go and play bull rush with the rest of the boys Bono and Siosifa kept winning.Mrs Raj called us over we walked into the observatory our Teacher was Tim he took us into the space room.He gave us a little introduction about space and then he asked if anybody had questions their was lots of questions but the main one I liked was when he talked to us about how fast light travelled he said that light can go around planet earth 7 times in one second that's amazingly fast .
After we finished in the space room Tim took us into the foyer and said we could go and have a look around I went and looked at the many types of spaceships that were there they even had the tip of an actual space rocket there and also a model of the Saturn V rocket it was the rocket that went to the moon it had 5 gigantic engines to power all of it because it also had to carry supplies for the passengers on the space shuttle. The best information in the foyer I think was when they showed the NZ herald when they were doing a newspaper about how Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.
After we went into the observatory Tim said we were going to watch a film about Wonders Of The Universe he played the video it looked weird because we were sitting still yet everything else was moving the video told us information about constellations and also Tim talked to us about the horizon and what planets you can see through out the night and at dawn it was amazing finding out that one day we might become extinct because of a supernova a star that could explode any time now it can go through the whole galaxy.Once we finished the movie we went back on the bus and headed back to school.I recommend you should go there its pretty amazing what you can learn there.

Technology Reflection
Today at technology Mr Pineda told us that we were going to finish off our Juice box designs he talked to us about how we can develop it and make it better. He passed around our designs I was embarrassed when he showed my one to me.We all started he gave us some words we could use to promote our work I used Appleocalypse for my one because my one was Zombie themed I traced some pictures onto my paper Mr Pineda said it looked good.Next I coloured my picture in I haven't finished yet but I think its going to look good he said he will laminate my picture so I can show my parents.

Poem about school
I really like my school,
and just want to say,
That's where I spend,
most of my day.
and just want to say,
That's where I spend,
most of my day.
Countless activities,
I get to do.
For arts and crafts,
I always use glue.
I get to do.
For arts and crafts,
I always use glue.
During maths class,
I learn to add and subtract.
ten times ten equals one hundred,
that's an absolute fact.
I learn to add and subtract.
ten times ten equals one hundred,
that's an absolute fact.
One of my favourite classes,
is fun and called gym.
I can nearly touch,
that basketball rim.
is fun and called gym.
I can nearly touch,
that basketball rim.
I also enjoy learning,
difficult words to spell.
My ears are programmed,
for that school bell.
difficult words to spell.
My ears are programmed,
for that school bell.
I really like my school,
and just want to say,
I'm always excited,
for the very next day.
I'm always excited,
for the very next day.

Mathematics
Yesterday we did some Mathematics and these are some of the Marilyn needs to fertilise her front lawn. It measures 20 metres by 35 metres. Each bag of the fertiliser that she plans to use covers approximately 200m2. How many bags should she buy?
She needs to buy 3 and a 1/2 bags .20x35=700 and 700 divided by 200 = 3.5 and she has a 700 metre squared lawn and 3 bags would cover 600 metres squared and half the bag would cover the left over 100 metre squared.
Remember: length X width
2) Mr Masua needs to fertilise our school lawn. It measures 35 metres by 40 metres. Each bag of the fertiliser that he plans to use covers approximately 200m2. How many bags should he buy?
30x40=1200
5 x 40=200
35 x 40 = 200
30 x 20 x 2 + 200 = 1400
she needs to buy 7 bags
Decimals maintenance (Write down the strategies you use)
Sally was painting her house. She needed 0.48 litres for each wall of her kitchen and 1.34 litres for each wall of her bedroom.
How many litres does she need for the kitchen?
0.40 x 4 = 1.6
0.8 x 4 = 0.36
1.6 + 0.32 = 1.92
How many litres does she need for the bedroom?
1 x 4 = 4.0
0.30 x 4 = 1.20
0.4 x 4 = 0.16
4.0 + 1.0 = 5.0
0.20 + 0.16 = 0.36
5.0 + 0.36 = 5.36
1.0 x 4 = 4
3.98 + 12.34 = 16.32
0.089 + 0.834 = 0.932
Which is bigger? 0.89 or 0.782
0.98 - 0.234 = 0.746
0.5 - 0.24 = 0.26
12.89 - 9.242 = 3.648
Have a look at these strategies and try them out to solve the problem.
Place value partitioning: 35 x 20 = (30 +5) x 20 = (30 x 20) + (5 x20) = 600 + 100 = 700
Rounding and compensating: 20X35 (20 X 40 - 100 = 700)
Using known facts: 5, 10, 20
20X35 (20X10 + 20X10 + 20X10 + 20 X 5 =700)
Vertical algorithm: Traditional algorithm
20
X35
Reversibility: 20X35 (700 divided by 35 = 20 or 700 divided by 20 = 35)
Proportional adjustment: 20 X 35 = (10X70=700)
Multiplying larger numbers
20 X 35 = (20X30 + 20X5=)

The creation of Rugby
One day William Web Ellis was at school doing some work he was in science there was a note going around the classroom saying that there was going to be a big soccer match at break 1 William kept thinking about scoring a goal and then it was the first
The bell rang every student left for Break 1 They all went to the football field and started to play William Ran with ball and then disregarding the rules for football he picked up the ball in his hands and ran down the field dodging all the players on the field and dived into the goal this creating rugby.
They said later on that he left to become a cricketer and four years later they bring back the rugby game .And then it was introduced to the world it only reached New Zealand in 1870 by Charles John Monro .Everybody started playing now it’s a global sensation. There are now many rugby clubs all over New Zealand .They also named an trophy after him The William Web Ellis cup
also known as the Rugby world cup.

Anzac Report
Anzac Day
Anzac Day was first marked in 1915.The day has gone through many changes since then.the ceremonies that are held at war memorials up and down New Zealand ,or places overseas where New Zealanders gather, remain rich in tradition and a military funeral.
Thousands lost their lives in Gallipoli about 2000 New Zealanders died .They were fighting for Britain the Turkish people had a machine gun in the trenches they were firing at the new Zealanders and shot and The soldiers became casualties.
The Turkish people tried to stop Australians And New Zealanders from fighting.that they dropped papers and told them to surrender and that they will treat them good. The Turkish people said Why are you fighting for Britain this is not your fight !!!SURRENDER NOW.But New Zealand didn't surrender they kept on fighting .
Anzac Recount
This morning we had a remembrance ceremony .Room 4 placed there crosses in first and then the rest followed one by one .Then Geoffrey gave a speech about anzac he told us lots and lots about the war.
Today I learnt that to join the army you have to be at least 18.We had an actual soldier come to our school is name is Lieutenant Geoffrey. He left the army and he told our school that he was working
with transport he said that he dealed with delivering goods around the country.
Afterwards Mrs Raj lead us to the hall and we got to ask lieutenant questions. We also asked him to what his medals are for he said that it 2 were for campaign medals.

As soon as we went outside there was a crowd of girls chasing us because we pranked them it was funny as because we both jumped jumped on the flying fox and we went super fast around the field we were scared like a cat getting chased by a dog .The girls soon catches up. We jumped on the camps dirt bike I was revving the dirt bike throttle was very awesome the girls could not catch us now.
then we heard a bunch of screams they were at the back of us my heart pumped faster and faster like a usain bolt running in the Olympics It was scary we stopped.

Tides and Ocean currents
Tides And Ocean Currents.
Surfers and seafarers all know that the water around New Zealand is changing.
Driven by the wind, the warm subtropical water flows and swirls around the island.
Tides ebb the flow along the coast, and where fresh and seawater are brought
together at estuaries, fiords and river plumes-unique environments are created.
Wind blown from the East New Zealand lies in the path of an eastward-flowing
currents, which are driven by winds that blow across the South Pacific Ocean.
These winds, the South East trades to the north, and the roaring forties to the
south, drive the water along the equator.
But even the most sophisticated satellite technology cannot provide analysis of the ocean
beyond a few centimetres deeper than the surface.
To record the changes under the sea, back on board the research ships, Oceanographers use sophisticated cameras and equipment to record changes in ocean properties. Valuable data is archived and synthesised to build a picture of how ocean environments behave.
